Writing content for your website is always a worthy use of time when it comes to generating potential leads or at the very least, boosting your website’s search engine visibility, because you have more relevant content for your chosen field.
“But nobody’s reading my blog lah”
It’s not just advertising agencies that often share their insights and industry tips and opinions on blog posts; it serves as a way to engage with and inform audiences about your marketing or business ideas, serving up a scoop of interesting reading to the community of followers in your industry that you have garnered. Here are some of the problems and solutions to get more eyeballs on your content.
- A Catchy Title
Okay, let’s start at the beginning. Is your headline short and snappy or is it long and meandering? People have learned long ago that if you want to write something important, make your message short and to the point! I’m just saying that “WARNING, CLIFF AHEAD” is more effective than: “BEST WATCH OUT, DEAR SIR OR MADAM! THERE’S A STEEP CLIFF JUST 100 METRES AHEAD. GOOD DAY!” Think newspaper headlines; written to be brief and bold. Write a title that has powerful keywords, short descriptions or memorable terms.
- Use The Magic Words
If you’re writing a blog targeted at gamers, you’ll need to know the key search terms and specific keywords used to find articles about the games they want to play. Fortnite? Minecraft? Halo? FPS, RPG, RTS, DPS. The list of specific terms go on and get as deep into just a single game as you can imagine. You’ll need to be well versed in your chosen field of topic if you want to hit the ground running when writing your blog. Or you could learn as you go and build up towards more knowledge in a particular genre. When you focus and specialise, you’ll thrive.
- A Thousand Words
Even if you’re writing about the most technical subject on the internet, there’s nothing that jazzes an article up like a snazzy picture that visualises something that you’re writing about. Our human brains are wired for images, evolving on the plains, looking for prey, staying alert for predators. So, show off your creative side with a beautifully crafted visual that also links back to your topic and you’ll be doing your blog post a huge favour both for your reader and for the search engines which will utilise your unique image to help connect it to the topic and strengthen the SEO results.
- Call Them To Act
If you have a product to sell, maybe a seminar or course your reader could sign up that you’re offering, writing your blog article is a great way to promote your product or service. Combine your blog post with details of your product or service to seamlessly merge the topics allowing you to address the problem people have and present your solution into the mix. Include a clear call to action at the end of your article, with a link to your course, or a button for them to sign up now, or direct them to your online store or add the product straight to their cart. It’s your call as to how you want to get your audience to act, but be sure to give them the opportunity to do so, always!
- Share It
Link it to your social media, always! Blog posts are probably the most widespread yet overlooked long-form posts that would benefit the most from social media in today’s business environment. Posting a link to your latest blog article allows you to tap into the large followings you would more likely see on social media applications like Instagram, Linkedin or Facebook and build your audience there.
- Why Not Vlog?
If you have a niche audience already, why not share your blog on platforms like Youtube and Instagram by vlogging? You have the chance to add a lot of content and build your personal brand (assuming you’re not camera shy). Recording a video blog is its own share of challenges and a learning curve but once you’ve got the hang of your audience, format, writing your script, and figuring out your editing style, you now have the best chance of getting your voice out there (literally) because hey, if people have the option to watch and listen to your content, as well as read it, you’ve got all your bases covered.
So, that’s the gist of getting into the hang of optimising your blog for better results and engagement. It’s something I’m trying to practise too. Teaching is the best way to learn I suppose.
